Boris Johnson out of intensive care: "I can't thank them enough"

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been released from intensive care and says that he owes the staff at the state-run hospital he was admitted to his life.

His first statement after being released was to praise the health care workers for caring for him.

"I can't thank them enough. I owe them my life," Mr Johnson said.

He was admitted last Monday and taken into intensive care as he coronavirus symptoms worsened. He was kept in intensive care until last Thursday.

He was on his feet and taking short walks between rests as he recovers from the illness. Britains' death toll is near 10 000 as hospitals report another 917 fatalities.

Downing Street has stated that Mr. Johnson is making good progress. Ms. Priti Patel, the interior minister, said that Johnson needs time to recover before resuming his duties.

In other news, reported that Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has said that the lockdown will not prevent the spread of COVID-19 but delay the spread. An estimated 60%-70% of the population is expected to contract the virus.

The two-week extension to the lockdown has resulted in a predicted delay to peak in September. Initially, without the lockdown, the peak was expected to be in July, with the 3-week lockdown the peak was expected in August.
