COVID-19: Ghana records highest number of positive cases in West Africa

Ghana has recorded 566 cases of the COVID-19 as of April 12, 2020, the country’s health service has confirmed.

The latest update means Ghana is now number in West Africa in terms of the COVID-19 status.

Ivory Coast is number two in the sub-region with 533 cases according to africafeeds.com.

The other countries with high numbers in West Africa are Burkina Faso ( 484), Niger (491) and Nigeria (318)

Meanwhile, Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso, South Africa are the top five African countries with high COVID-19 recovery figures.

South Africa has the highest number of recoveries from the deadly virus with 452 followed by Algeria (408) as of April 12, 2020.

Egypt has also recorded an appreciable number of recoveries which stands at 426 with Senegal and Burkina Faso from West Africa also recording 152 and 155 recoveries respectively.

Ghana has so far recorded only 4 recoveries.

The Ghana Health Service on Sunday, April 12 confirmed 158 new cases that were detected over the weekend.

The country has so far recorded eight deaths from the 566 cases.

President Nana Akufo-Addo announced an extension in the lockdown and ban on all public and social gatherings following the increased cases.

Also, so far 10 out of 16 regions in Ghana have confirmed cases with the capital city, Accra, leading with 452 cases.
