Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency, Sam George says the government, as well as the Ghana Football Association, needs to assure residents at Pramparam of their safety before using the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram as an isolation center for the deadly coronavirus.
The GFA offered the facility to the government as part of its contribution towards the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in the country at a press briefing today
Residents of Prampram, held a demonstration on Sunday to oppose the offer by the GFA to government citing that their views must be considered before the facility is used.
In an interview on Happy FM monitored by YEN.com.gh, Sam George said is concerned about the safety of the people in the constituency with regards to the use of the GFA facility as an isolation center.
”We agreed to have a meeting between the GFA and Ningo-Prampram Traditional Council to deliberate on the issue today. Later we were told another meeting was ongoing somewhere which had former MP E.T. Mensah and some selected chiefs present."
“We want the right thing to be done. As MP, I am interested in the safety of the people in the constituency. The facility does not have any proper security arrangement and what if those who are camped escape to the town.“If they want to use the place then they should assure us of a proper security arrangement, he added.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had handed over its Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence to the government to be used as a coronavirus isolation and treatment facility.
President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku made this known press briefing on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
According to Kurt Okraku, the idea to use the 250-bed facility for the said purpose was initially rejected by the youth of Prampram but the misunderstanding has been sorted.
