Ayawaso West Wuogon: MP Lydia Alhassan donates to churches in constituency

Residents in the area continue to receive goodies and support from the sitting Member of Parliament, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

The politician is undoubtedly showing love to the poor and needy amid the partial lockdown which was declared by President Akufo-Addo.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan on Saturday, April 18 donated 3000 bags of 5kg Rice, among others to the churches in the 11 electoral areas in the constituency.

The relief items to the faith-based organizations also included 500 crates of eggs, 1,500 nose mask and 2,000 pieces of hand sanitizers.

The items were presented to the Presbyterian Church at Abelemkpe for onward distribution to all churches within the constituency. 

Speaking at a short ceremony during the presentation, the MP, Lydia Alhassan said she partnered the religious bodies in doing this to ensure that the items get to the vulnerable within the community.

“I cannot visit all homes, so I decided to partner you to ensure that the needs of the vulnerable are met.  You know your members better than I because you represent a lot of the constituents. You know where they live, you know their needs. It’s easier for you to share the items because you know to reach the vulnerable,” she said.

She further stated that the move will also avoid crowding.

Madam Alhassan also prayed Ghanaians and residents of the Ayawaso West Wuogon to adhere to the precautionary measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 in Ghana.

She opined that her next presentation will be to the Muslim community to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“No one will be left out. I do this genuinely because I care. Please stay safe,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has presented a cheque of ¢10 million to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

The amount is in support of the national efforts towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan made a massive donation of GHC 47,000 to a victim of the violence that ensued in the area during a by-election on January 31, 2019.

A news report by Citinewsroom.com indicated that the victim identified as Ishawu Yaro suffered a terrible injury after being shot in the leg on the fateful day.

It is indicated that Yaro had spent an entire year at the 37 Military Hospital just receiving treatment which has accrued the massive hospital bills for him to settle.
