COVID-19: Youth storm the streets in jubilation after Akufo-Addo lifted lockdown (video)

- This comes after President Akufo-Addo government lifted the lockdown restrictions which took effective at 1am today, April 20, 2020

A video is rapidly trending on social media with some Ghanaian youth excitedly partying on the streets of Accra not long after the government lifted lockdown restrictions necessitated by the coronavirus.

President Nana Akuffo-Addo, during his 7th update on the coronavirus pandemic captioned, ''Measures taken against the spread of coronavirus”, indicated that the lockdown has been lifted effective 1am on Monday, April 20, 2020.

The president indicated that the decision is due to the newly developed capacities and measures that put government in the right position to better understand and manage the virus.

As a result, some young men were seen in jubilation over the president's decision to end the partial lockdown exercise.

The video showed the young men who appeared to be in their teens singing the praise of the president.

President Akufo-Addo, however, stated that lifting the lockdown did not mean that we will disregard safety measures.

Social gatherings remain restricted to an extent, public transports are equally expected to run with considerable number of passengers.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh previously reported that President Akufo-Addo announced a partial lockdown of the country in new measures to fight COVID-19.

The lockdown started on Monday, March 30, 2020, and lasted for three weeks.

In other news, President Nana Akufo-Addo confirmed in his 7th televised address to the nation that the country had recorded a total of 1,042 coronavirus cases.
