Even when the world is facing so much uncertainty and people are at the brink of losing hope, some humans still choose to spread love and be their brother’s keeper.

A kind lady named Halima Hillow left people fighting back tears when she first shared a photo of a woman from Wajir using a carton box to cover her nose and mouth.

The elderly lady wanted to protect herself from COVID-19 but poverty drove her into picking the first thing in sight that looked like it could shield her.

She cut up a box and attached pieces of sisal ropes on the sides to create the makeshift mask then wore it.

Halima through a Twitter post said she and her three sisters decided to purchase and send over 250 washable masks to the lady and her fellow women in Wajir.

According to the tweep, women working in markets received some of the masks.

The kind hearted lady who was not willing to let a stranger suffer in the face of a deadly pandemic emphasised the need for protecting people in rural areas struggling with poverty.

“Alhamdullilah after highlighting a picture of mother with a box as a mask from Wajir, I would like to say with the help of my three sisters we were able to send 250 washable masks. They were donated to mothers at the market in Wajir. We shall send more Insha’Allah. Thank you,” Halima said.

Area chiefs and police officers took the initiative of distributing the masks and even teaching residents how to properly don the protective gear.

Twitter users saluted the officers and Halima for doing what most people had no heart to do.
