COVID-19: 5 ways the pandemic has affected people's lives

Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic which has impacted economies across the world and engineered a social shift, many people have been greatly affected as a result.

In an earlier report, some Ghanaians shared how they lost their jobs and detailed their experiences after YEN.com.gh sought to find out whether some people were laid off by their employers during the coronavirus lockdown.

The earlier report also highlighted that some economists have projected the risks of the coronavirus on people especially the aged who are unemployed, the youth, businesses - and sectors including retail, hospitality and tourism.

In a latest post on social media, YEN.com.gh asked how the coronavirus has affected the lives of people.

‘‘How has coronavirus affected your life.’’

Many shared their experiences about how the prevailing pandemic has impacted their lives.

Here are 5 ways in which COVID-19 has affected people's lives.

1. Employment/Loss of jobs

Some Ghanaians confirmed that they have lost their jobs or job opportunities due to the pandemic.

According to Godwin Harris, ‘‘At a point of securing a job at Niche Cocoa Processing then the Lockdown happened and Boarders are being closed .’’

Tat Ten De TinoBi also confirmed he lost his job.

He wrote: ''It's seized ma job..

So now am not wrking.’’

2. Travel and Tourism

The outbreak of the coronavirus affected travel and tourism.

Richard Oppong Nketiah noted that a ‘‘close friend of mine was from 2 weeks away to travel to UK for his first travel but the lockdown end his dream moment.’’

‘‘My flight was cancelled due to this demonic corona which I will never forget about it in my life ,’’ Bampo Eric shared the same experience.

3. Education

According to Maame Yaa Kuma, she was slated to complete school in November 2020 but things have changed as a result of the pandemic.

She wrote: ‘‘Sooooo bad..I was suppose to complete school this November... Am still the house hmmm.’’

4. Relationship and Love

Anane Emmanuel said: ‘‘It has prevented me from seeing my loved ones.’’

‘‘My girlfriend doesn't allow me to see her.....she's even afraid of video calling me cus she might get some Coro Coro,’’ Jhohn Darry McAdams also said.

5. Finances

The novel coronavirus pandemic has without a doubt affected people’s finances and impacted economies.

Quequ said: ‘‘Corona has caused me financial disability.’’

Hajj As Pounds also confirmed that he ‘‘didn't get pay for a month.’’

In a related story, YEN.com.gh highlighted that coronavirus pandemic which has ravaged nearly every country has impacted economies including Ghana and many have lost their jobs due to the downturn.

Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 and its spread, President Akufo-Addo was compelled to impose a partial lockdown on parts of Greater Accra, Kasoa and Greater Kumasi.
