Some 53 health projects abandoned by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) since they came into office in 2017 have been exposed by the Coalition of NGOs in Health.

According to the chairman of the group, Dr. Gabriel Bernaku, the Akufo-Addo led administration has left these projects unattended to.

As at 12 noon, my regional representatives are able to give me at least 53 health facilities either completed and not commissioned or abandoned halfway,” he told Joy FM in an interview.

He further narrated that many of the abandoned projects are mainly 60-100% complete.

We are mindful of two critical issues: …we have to continue and upgrade what has existed to allow communities to use them and then we add on,” he advised.

Dr. Bernaku also pleaded with President Akufo-Addo to ensure his assigns ensure completion of these projects before new projects are undertaken.

He further noted that the NPP government has not shown commitment in seeing through some of these critical health projects for the benefit of the citizenry.

The Coalition of NGOs in Health’s revelation comes on the back of President Akufo-Addo’s promise that his government will construct 88 new hospitals in districts without such facilities.

Many have criticised the decision questioning why new facilities are scheduled to be constructed while ongoing projects by previous administrations have stalled.
