Twitter's CEO Jack Dorsey just dropped a bombshell. He announced that to his employees via email that working from home could be a permanent thing if they wanted to do so.

Dorsey said that Twitter wouldn't be opening their offices until at least September. He said that those who could work from home could continue doing so if they wanted to.

Business Insider reported that Dorsey revealed the past few months have proven that working from home is possible.

"Opening offices will be our decision, when and if our employees come back, will be theirs," the representative told Business Insider. "When we do decide to open offices, it also won't be a snap back to the way it was before. It will be careful, intentional, office by office and gradual."

It was reported that he said that most positions at the firm would be remote in the future.

The company will not hold any in-person events or make any business trips for the rest of the year.

This has become a pattern within other major tech companies which have introduced new work from home policies.

Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon have told staff that they can work through Autumn even if their offices open earlier.

Dorsey had plans for a "distributed workforce" even before Covid-19 forced countries into lockdown.

"I don't fear any slowness as we work to distribute our workforce now, and I do think we have to build a company that's not entirely dependent on San Francisco," Dorsey said during an earnings call in February.
"As we look forward, we're reaching a talent pool that expects a lot more remote work … We should be building our company around that. I haven't made any plans just yet for this year, but I do expect that I will travel."
