Prior to the time of former President John Agyekum Kufuor in office, there had been concerns about the local fabric manufacturers going out business due to low patronage. This low patronage had been caused by a seeming disinterest in styles associated with the fabrics.
But the Kufuor government intervened and introduced a policy for African print dresses to be worn as part of office wear, especially for Fridays.
Commonly known as African wear, the policy was well-received and has increased the use of African print.
In recent times, the popularity of African print dresses has increased thanks to the many Ghanaian celebrities who have sharing style inspirations.
