Bolivian footballer becomes 1st player to die from coronavirus

- Deibert Frans Roman Guzman has become the first footballer to die from coronavirus complications in Bolivia

- The 25-year-old died after his father and uncle also lost their battle against the virus

Former Bolivia youth international Deibert Frans Roman Guzman has become the first footballer to die from coronavirus complications.

Bolivian football is mourning not only Guzman’s death but also the demise of his father and uncle who died of COVID-19.

According to a report on The Sun, Guzman, who played for Bolivian second division outfit University of Trinidad, lost his battle after several weeks in hospital.

His death comes after he lost his father Belizario Roman, the former president of University of Trinidad, and his uncle Luis Carmelo Roman, manager of Deportivo Perejique, to the virus.

It was gathered that the footballing trio were all from Beni, one of the states in Bolivia largely hit by coronavirus pandemic.

They shared the same house in the Paititi neighborhood, with Belizario's wife and two daughters.

Before moving to Bolivian second division outfit University of Trinidad, Roman Guzman previously enjoyed a spell with top-flight side Nacional Potosi.

According to reports, Beni, which has a population of 420,000, has so far recorded over 1,200 cases of Covid-19 and 77 deaths.

While Bolivia as a nation has suffered 8,387 cases of coronavirus and 293 related deaths.

In February, Legit.ng reported that an Italian-Nigerian professional footballer named King Paul Akpan Udoh reportedly emerged as the first footballer to be diagnosed with the deadly coronavirus.

The entire world has been thrown into serious panic since the outbreak of the deadly disease which emanated from China in which many are currently battling for survival.

Until he was said to have been confirmed a carrier of the disease, King Paul Akpan was playing in the Italian third division side with Pianese.

King Paul Udoh, 22, started his professional career at Reggiana before moving to Juventus youth team in the year 2011.

Before joining Pianese in the Italian lower division, King Udoh had stint at Fernana and Faro before he was asked to leave the sides.

It is also reported that the English Premier League community can now heave a sigh of relief after Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers disclosed he earlier contracted the dreaded coronavirus but has fully recovered.

The former Liverpool boss also explained that his wife also tested positive for the infection and she has also fully recovered.

Rodgers likened that symptoms to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, saying he was weak, unable to walk and had some struggles.
