Kanye West donates $2m for George Floyd's daughter's college fund

Kanye West has joined other celebs who have donated huge amounts to assist families who have been affected by racism and injustices in the US.

The billionaire rapper donated $2 million to support the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

His donation was triggered by the recent death of Floyd which has led to nationwide Black Lives Matter protests in the US.

CNN reports that a representative for West said he established an education plan to fully cover college tuition for Gianna Floyd, George's 6-year-old daughter.

The demonstrations are a demand for an end to systematic racism and police brutality, of which the killings of Arbery and Taylor are also prime examples, reports TMZ.

It was reported that another billionaire rapper, Jay-Z, took out a number of expensive newspaper advertisements in honour of Floyd.

The 50-year-old rapper and his company Roc Nation have had the full-page awareness ads published in the likes of the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, The Denver Post, and the Philadelphia Enquirer, with more still to be printed over the coming days.

The black and white advertisement includes a passage from Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s 1965 Selma address.

Drake has also backed the protesters who are demanding justice for Floyd. The rapper donated $100 000 to the National Bail Out fund on Monday.

The fund seeks to help pay the bail bonds of people arrested across America during the Black Lives Matter protests in response to Floyd's death.

Another Canadian superstar, The Weeknd, has also donated $100 000 to the National Bail Out.
