Their talents have helped them to secure mouth-watering deals as they are among the richest footballers in the world.

YEN.com.gh has listed 9 richest African football stars and the list includes Asamoah Gyan and Michael Essien.

1. Samuel Eto'o Fils:

According to many football experts in the world, Eto is the richest African footballer. Per reports, Eto's total net worth is $140 million.

Eto'o became highest-paid footballer in the world when he joined Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala where he earned $25 Million annually.

The Cameroonian has previously played for Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea, etc.

2. Didier Drogba:

Drogba became one of the dangerous strikers in the world during his days with English side Chelsea.

He played a key as Chelsea won three league titles in 2005, 2006 and 2010, before inspiring them to win their first-ever UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

Drogba was on $170,000 a week at Chelsea. When he joined Galatasaray his wage was $5.2 million annually.

3. Yaya Toure:

The Ivorian international couldn't be forgotten when talking about richest African football stars.

The box-to-box midfielder joined Manchester City from Barcelona and signed a five-year-deal worth a staggering £55.6m.

At Manchester City, Toure took home a basic wage of £185,000 a week before tax but the figure was expected to increase to £221,000 when the Government's 50% tax bracket comes into force.

He won three Premier League titles at Manchester City in his spell with the side.

4. Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor became the highest-paid strikers in the world when he moved from Arsenal to Manchester City.

Adebayor signed a five-year contract for 25 million pounds with Manchester City in 2009.

He was loaned out to Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur during that time. He signed permanently with Hotspur in 2012 for 5 million pounds.

5. Asamoah Gyan:

The Ghanaian international became the highest-paid African football stars when he moved from Sunderland to Al Ain.

His deal from Al Ain to Shanghai SIPG was watering which saw him receive about $250,000 wage per week, which made him the highest-paid African player around 2015.

Asamoah Gyan has had a successful career, despite not playing the for big clubs in Europe. He won the top scorer’s award in the UAE and more especially he had had a fabulous career at the international level.

6. Michael Essien

Essien started his career at Liberty Professionals in Ghana like Asamoah Gyan, before he pursued his career abroad.

He played for Bastia, before he was spotted by French giants Lyon. He won the French Footballer of the year in 2005 and was signed by Jose Mourinho to Chelsea.

Essien used to receive an annual salary of $4.7 million while playing for Chelsea and earned addition money including several bonuses and allowance he earned from the League, FA Cup and Champions League titles.

He currently plays for Sabail in the Azerbaijan Premier League, as a midfielder as well as understudying as a coach.

7. Mohammed Salah:

The Egyptian signed a staggering 50-million-pound club-record deal with Liverpool.

He formed a trio with Sadio Mane and Roberto Ferminho and helped the Reds to win the UEFA Champions League in 2017.

Salah also inspired Egypt to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)final, but they lost against Cameroon.

He also earned a place in ‘CAF Team of the Tournament.’ As of 2019, Mohamed Salah’s net worth is $58 Million dollars. He may not be the richest Footballer in Africa 2020 right now, but he is on the way to be.

8. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang:

The Gabonese star joined after a thrilling career at Dortmund which saw him win the Bundesliga top scorer joined Arsenal.

He is reportedly on £198,000 weekly wage which makes one of the highest paid players.

According to German newspaper Der Spiegel, he received a £2.26m Champions League bonus despite Arsenal finishing sixth last season and fifth this campaign in the Premier League.

According to Forbes Magazine his net worth is $41 million.

9. Sadio Mané:

Mane who is the African Footballer of the Year 2019 is paid £150,000 per week and his annual salary is in the region of £7.8million.

He has been a key member of Jurgen Klopp's team since he joined Liverpool from Southampton and has formed a deadly trio with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firminho.

He played a key role as Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League in 2019.
