The MCE for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Kobina Kurentsir Sam, has reportedly passed away, reports making rounds on social media suggest.
According to a report YEN.com.gh sighted on Starrfm.com.gh, Kobina Sam, passed on at the University of Ghana Hospital from a suspected case of COVID-19.
While the report was short on details, it cited a close aide to the MCE to have confirmed to Empire FM’s Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan that his boss passed after suffering COVID-19
A few weeks ago, Kobina Sam's personal driver reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 and was put on mandatory quarantine.
But the MCE continued to go about his work as usual and refused calls to self-isolate.
Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana has risen to 11,118 with 3,979 recoveries in the latest update by the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service.
This has increased the total number of active cases Ghana currently has to 7,091 which is the highest the country has recorded since the fight against COVID-19 began. The total number of deaths stands at 48 now.
It is also reported that 58% out of the total number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana are male whilst only 42% belong to the female gender.
