Despite his party’s opposition to the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new voters’ register, NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to be part of the registration exercise.

According to Mr. Mahama, even though his party disagrees with the EC in the compilation of a new register, they will not undermine the country’s democracy in any way.

In an interaction with some people of the Tongor Area of South Dayi in the Volta Region, the NDC flagbearer told the chiefs and people to use their influence to encourage the citizenry to register in whatever registration the Supreme Court allows the EC to conduct in order to exercise their franchise on December 7, 2020.

“… But whatever the verdict is, there is going to be a registration exercise whether a limited registration, new registration exercise or validation of an existing register.  Whichever registration it is, I will like to plead with Togbui to beat the gong to all our people to come out and register so that in December they can register and exercise their votes, ” he said.

The NDC is in court over the EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The opposition NDC in its suit argued that the EC’s decision to compile lacks the power to go ahead with its plans because it can only “compile a register of voters only once, and thereafter revise it periodically, as may be determined by law”.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that with barely six months to the presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has outlined some promises its flag bearer will deliver on to Ghanaians if elected into power.

The NDC on Monday, June 22, 2020, outdoored a document titled, 'John Mahama’s Commitment to the People of Ghana'. The document, according to the NDC, will be undertaken by the party’s flag bearer if it wins the 2020 polls.
