Africa is proud: Songstress Sha Sha scoops 1st BET Award for Zimbabwe

- AmaPiano vocalist Sha Sha won her very first BET Award at a virtual ceremony held on Sunday night

- The Zimbabwean-born artist is signed under DJ Maphorisa's record label and is a prominent voice in the Amapiano genre

- This is Sha Sha's first-ever BET award and it is also the first time the coveted international honour has been bestowed on a Zimbabwean national

Halala! Zimbabwean Amapiano vocalist Sha Sha has bagged her very first BET Award for Viewer's Choice International Act. The songstress as the first artist from her country to ever be nominated for the international accolade.

The ceremony was held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sha Sha is signed to DJ Maphorisa's record label and her vocals can be heard in many local tracks featuring Kabza, Lord Phorry and MFR Souls. She has an album out titled Blossom, which is a fan favourite in the Amapiano genre.

The surprised musician took to social media to express her happiness:

"What just happened!!! A BET THANK YOU! MY PEOPLE BACK AT HOME ALL ALL OVER THE WORLD MAN."

Social media users congratulated her. Twitter user DMN4ever said:

"Well deserved, congratulations again."

Nealeteekays said:

"Thank you South Africa for providing this Zimbabwean sister of ours with the platform to showcase her talent, something which is truly hard to come by here, cause truly speaking South Africa provided the platform ,we just provided the votes."

Mehanwhile, Lady Zamar hit out at tweeps who think there can only be one female house singer on top at a time. She said there is more than enough room for everyone.

The debate all started when one fan tweeted that Shasha was replacing Lady Zamar.
