BSc. Business Administration

It is a four-year programme that provides learners with a structured insight into both the practical and theoretical dimensions of management and organisation. At KSB, a student must take at least four courses in the areas of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management as well as English, French, and Communications.

To enrol for the programme at the KNUST School of Business, candidates must satisfy the following requirements:

WASSCE applicants

  • A minimum of credit pass in 3 core subjects. There are Mathematics or Integrated Science, English Language or Social Studies.
  • At least a credit pass in 3 elective subjects under General Science, General Arts, and Business.

A’ Level applicants

  • Five credits at O’ Level and must include Mathematics and English Language.
  • Three A’ Level passes or equivalent in General Science and General Arts.

General Business Certificate (GBCE) and Advanced Business Certificate (ABCE) applicants

  • Credits in six subjects that include Mathematics and English Language for GBCE applicants.
  • Three passes in compulsory subjects that are relevant to the course and three optional subjects for ABCE applicants.

ACCA, ACIB, ICA, CIM applicants

  • Credit passes in 3 core subjects and three electives at WASSCE/SSSCE.
  • Five credits at O’ Level and should encompass Mathematics and English Language.

For applicants in this category, they will enrol for any of the KNUST business courses from year one.

Second Class (Lower Division) and HND applicants

  • Credit passes in three core subjects and three electives at WASSCE/SSSCE.
  • Five credits at O’ Level and must include Mathematics and English Language.

For applicants in this category, they can join year two or year three at KNUST Business School. But they will have to pass the entrance interview or examination to enter the institution.

Mature applicants

A mature applicant is one that is 25 years. The institution will allow them to enrol for the course if they satisfy the following requirements:

  • Must have five credits in O’ Level and mandatory credits in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Credit passes in 3 core subjects, especially Integrated Science, English Language, and Mathematics.
  • Credit passes in 3 elective subjects in Business, General Science, and General Arts.

For all shortlisted candidates, KNUST may require them to take an entrance examination before doing any of the BSc. Business Administration courses.

MBA and EMBA courses

KNUST School of Business also has MBA and EMBA programmes for all qualifying candidates. The courses offered at KNUST under this category include:

The qualification requirements for the above MBA and EMBA programmes at the KNUST Business School are as follows:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognised institution in the relevant field of study.
  • A candidate must have a thorough proficiency in written English.
  • A candidate may have to pass a selection interview at the School to enrol for the course.

KNUST will give preference to all candidates that possess a first-class honour or second class division. The institution also requires that applicants show they can pay all fees set for the programme throughout their duration of the study.

Masters of Science (MSc) programmes

Master of Science is part of the many KNUST School of Business programmes that candidates can apply for and get shortlisted. The courses available are:

For these courses, an applicant must possess an excellent first degree in a relevant field of study. They must also have at least a Second Class Lower Division or its equivalent to qualify.

  • MSc. Aviation Management (Accra and Kumasi)
  • MSc. Corporate Governance and Strategic Leadership Programme (Accra and Kumasi)

These two postgraduate programmes have different intake requirements. Applicants must:

  • Possess an Honours Degree from a recognised Institution of Higher Learning or University.
  • KNUST will give exemptions or credits to all applicants with a Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Governance and Strategic Leadership.
  • The exemptions or credits will be up to the total number of courses already taken.
  • The same case shall apply to all applicants with Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership or Corporate Governance or both.

The institution will also give exemptions to all applicants that have a KNUST certificate in any of the courses under MSc. in Corporate Governance and Strategic Leadership.

Master of Philosophy in Business and Management (MPhil) programmes

KNUST Business School courses also include Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programmes. These courses are available in all specialisation areas. They include:

  • MPhil. Accounting & Financial Management
  • MPhil. Finance
  • MPhil. Logistics & Supply Chain Management
  • MPhil. Procurement and Supply Chain Management
  • MPhil. Marketing
  • MPhil. Management & Human Resource Strategy

The admission requirements for MPhil programmes are:

  • Master’s degree or Master’s of Science in a relevant Business Administration subject or MBA from a recognised Institution of Higher Learning or University.
  • A pass in an entrance interview conducted by the programme’s respective department.

An applicant must also demonstrate that they can pay the approved fees for the programme throughout its duration.

For applicants that do not have a Master’s degree in a relevant Business Administration subject:

  • They must at least have an acceptable first degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in any subject area.

For such applicants, KNUST will admit them into an MSc programme of their choosing. The institution may upgrade them to a Master of Philosophy programme if they achieve the minimum CWA of 70 after the first year.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes

The KNUST School of Business has several PhD programmes in Business Administration and all its specialisation areas. Unlike other courses at KBS, applications for PhDs are only available by invitation. Applicants should, therefore, contact the institution to get more information on how to apply and the course content provided.

But in general, the minimum qualification requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy degree at KNUST are as follows:

  • An applicant must have an MPhil degree or equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • The individual must also submit proof of enough training and capacity to tackle the proposed programme.

The modes of study for various courses are as follows:

  • Undergraduate: full-time and part-time
  • MBA and EMBA: full-time and part-time, including weekends
  • Master of Science: full-time and part-time, including weekends
  • Master of Philosophy: full-time
  • Doctor of Philosophy: full-time

All weekend and evening courses are not distance learning programmes. A learner must be at the institution physically to study.

KNUST Business School fees schedule

School fees for Business and Administration programmes at KNUST vary depending on the course a candidate is pursuing. The following is an overview of the amounts payable for beginners.

Undergraduate students

Undergraduate students are required to pay GHC 2,487.22. This includes academic fees (GHC 1,484.47) and residential fees (GHC 1,002.75).

Postgraduate students

Fees for postgraduate students may vary depending on the course.

  • MBA (Full Time): GHC 7,763.00.
  • MBA (Top Up/Part time/ Weekend/Obuasi): GHC 8,863.00.
