On Monday, 6 July, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) approved Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate for flag-bearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the 2020 elections.

The NDC made history as the first major Ghanaian party to appoint a woman for the presidential bid.

Former president, Mahama, and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang will go against president Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming 2020 general elections.

The former education minister has received overwhelming endorsement from some forward thinking Ghanaians who agree her selection as running mate is a ''victory for inclusive and participatory democracy."

The hashtag, ImWithHer is rapidly trending on Twitter with many on social media throwing their support behind the historic selection of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as running mate for John Dramani Mahama.

Some affirm that her selection truly ‘‘enhances the credentials of our country and recognises the towering role women have played over the ages to achieve the progress we have made.”

According to @EkowDjan_, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is a "woman of substance and integrity.''

She added,''Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is a woman you can trust. She is not a liar, corrupt, etc. Ghana’s first female vice president. It is possible. #ImWithHer.''

@JMcbiden believes that''the dignity of the office of a vice president will be restored.''

@RichDery wrote: ''An impeccable woman of substance, high morals, and standards. The first female vice president of Ghana. #ImWithHer.''

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the National Democratic Congress has approved Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate for flag-bearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the 2020 elections.

Mahama stated she was unanimously endorsed by the National Executive Council of the NDC. Mahama described Naana Jane as a God-fearing woman, distinguished scholar, a conscientious public servant, and a role model.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s name had come up among several others as likely candidates to be selected as running mate, and if she is finally confirmed, she becomes the first female to be selected as running mate in the history of the NDC.
