News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has recorded 39 positive cases of the COVID-19 virus.

The FDA conducted mass testing of its 450 staff, including the Chief Executive Officer.

Out of the total 450 samples collected from the FDA, 39 of the samples returned positive.

The authority said in a statement:

“All thirty-nine (39) staff were asked to go into self-quarantine and those who were in close proximity to them were also asked to do the same and were provided with the necessary logistics to do so."

In the statement issued by the Head of Communications & Public Education, James Lartey, it was also noted that 38 out of the 39 have recovered “and will soon be reporting to work while the remaining one is responding to treatment”.

The FDA is running a strict shift system that has seen a reduction in its staff presence by 25 percent.

In other news, Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has revealed that the majority of his staff at the ministry have tested positive for COVID-19.

He said mass testing was conducted at the Ministry of Education and results showed that 45 out of 50 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Opoku Prempeh issued a statement that read:

“At my workplace, everyone has been tested. A lot of them tested positive for the virus. Assuming I have a total staff of 50, about 45 of them have the virus. None of them have been hospitalised but they are currently in self-isolation."
