A businessman, Ibrahim Mahama, has taken the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, to court for defamation.

He is seeking damages of up to GHc5 million after Chairman Wontumi purported that he made his wealth illegally.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, the NPP Chairman alleged that Mahama was a great beneficiary to stolen government funds when John Dramani Mahama was in power.

Ibrahim has asked that Wontumi renders an unqualified apology and also retract the defamatory statements he made within seven days.

Ibrahim Mahama claimed that the comments made by Chairman Wontumi were just lies without any proof of the matter.

Meanwhile, the editor of daillymailgh.com, Kenneth Mensah, has also been sued for publishing such false claims.

Chairman Wontumi seems to have an issue with anything related to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In an earlier news report by YEN.com.gh, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC claimed that Afia Schwar would have been a better choice of running mate for the NDC.

According to him, Afia had more to offer Ghanaians compared to Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang who was chosen as the running mate to John Mahama for the December polls.

Wontumi added that Afia Schwar's output in Ghana is quantifiable compared to Opoku-Agyemang.
