A young Ghanaian man identified as Kwadwo Adu has narrated his painful ordeal after he was arrested and detained for engaging in a fist fight with a police officer.
Famed as Boga Adu among his peers, the young man who works as a bricklayer recounts how he was arrested and dragged to court the same day and later ended up at Kumasi Central Prison in the Ashanti Region.
Adu, an indigene of Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, admits he is a recovering alcoholic.
He sat for an interview with GHPage and explained the circumstances leading to his arrest.
Adu explained that one dawn, before he took off to work, he passed by a bar in his neighbourhood to get alcohol on credit but was denied by the bartender who was also the owner.
After leaving the scene, the owner of the bar, where he was a regular customer, came to his house later in the day accusing him of stealing her roofing sheets.
Adu says he was innocent of the accusation but the woman still insisted that he was the last person to leave her bar.
According to him, the situation quickly escalated into a serious altercation.
Two weeks later, the woman came to his house in the company of a police officer to arrest him.
Adu reveals that he was drunk at the time the police officer arrived and got involved in a serious argument with the officer.
The altercation turned into a near fist fight and the two landed in a nearby gutter.
The unfortunate incident, which happened four months ago, was the beginning of his woes.
He was arraigned before a court the same day he was arrested and detained for two months and two weeks.
Adu was released after the owner of the bar found out it was her son who stole the sheets and sold them and she contacted the police to release him.
