5 things Akufo-Addo-led NPP government got right

President Nana Addo Dankwa AAkufo-Addo since being sworn into office on January 7, 2017, has undertaken a lot of projects and initiated a lot of programmes as well as done some interventions to unburden Ghanaians.

Even though almost all these projects undertaken by the government was not considered worthy and feasible by some Ghanaians especially the opposition, government still undertook them nonetheless.

Some of these initiatives and interventions by government have really benefitted some Ghanaians.

YEN.com.gh has, however, listed 5 things the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government really got right.

1. Mobile Money Interoperability

This happens to be number one on the list of all the things the AkufoAddo led administration seem to have gotten right.

The stress of not going to the bank and queuing for long hours has been solved by the Mobile Money Interoperability initiated in 2018.

This allows for cash to be moved from banks into a mobile money wallets and also into e-zwich accounts. Also the system makes it possible for money to be moved from the wallet of one network service provider to the other.

2. ECG app

Imagine running out of electricity in the middle of the night with all the vending points being closed to business and having just one option left than to top up and buy prepraid credit whie laying in your bed. That is how convenient the ECG app introduced by the NPP government is.With enough money on an individuals mobile wallet, prepaid credits can be bought without stepping out. This, is a step in the right direction.

3. Zipline Drone

This initiative by the NPP government was met with a lot of criticisms and opposition from Ghanaians expecially members of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), most of them were of the view that the initiative by government to have drones deliver medical supplies and blood was nt a good one. According to critiques, government should have rather invested that money into the health carw system. Aside all the criticisms on this particular initiative, YEN.com.gh believes it is one of the things the Akufo-Addo government really got right.

4. NABCO

The Nation Builders Corps was initiated by the Akuffo-Addo led administration to employ graduates and others with various skill sets to enable them get employment and also to receive some form of renumeration at the end of the month.

Even thought the programme was fraught with challenges, YEN.com.gh believes it is one of the many initiatives the Akufo-Addo government got right.

5. COVID-19 reliefs

During the time the lockdown was announced , President Akufo-Addo and his administration won the admination of many Ghanaians.

The president announced free water supply for Ghanaians for three months, as well as 50 per cent payment electricity bill as well free light bill for life-line consumers as well.

Meanwhile, vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that due to the Mobile Money interoperability about 15 million Ghanaians have bank accounts.

The Mobile Money interoperability allows Ghanaians to move money from their bank accounts to their mobile money wallets and from the wallets to the bank account.

According to Bawumia, Ghana happens to be the first country on the African continent to adapt to the digitised way of handling and moving cash without moving.
