Ronald Koeman has reportedly emerged the chosen one to replace manager Quique Setien as Barcelona are keen on new tactician following their embarrassing Champions League quarter-final to Bayern Munich.

The Catalan giants were thoroughly humiliated 8-2 by a ‘well-oiled German machine’ in the form of Bayern Munich as they succumbed to yet another heart-breaking exit from the Champions League for the third successive season.

Bayern were ruthless for the entire 90 minutes scoring four times in either half as Messi and co looked on with so much confusion as they crashed out of the tournament as Setien could only watch haplessly from the bench.

The club management branded the result as a ‘disaster’ as they are keen on replacing the manager following the historic loss.

Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Milano who works for, among others, Sky Sport and specialises in football transfers has disclosed that Koeman, who is currently the manager of Holland national football team, will be appointed as the new Barcelona manager.

“Ronald Koeman has been chosen as new Barcelona manager. He's going to leave Holland National team to join Barça - official statement this week. Here we go,” he tweeted.

And this is coming barely 24 hours after Koeman was seen on camera at Barcelona airport amid speculation of Quique Setien's sack.

It is understood the Netherlands' current coach wants to leave the national team job to take up a more lucrative offer from his former team.

The Dutch legend was spotted at the Barcelona airport on a private plane days after the club's Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Barcelona players returned home as a laughing stock as fans mocked them when they returned from their 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

And as they returned to Spain, a group of fans were seen booing the Catalan players as some of the stars quickly made away from the scene.

Recall that a photo of ‘broken’ Messi earlier emerged showing the 33-year-old rooted to the dressing room seat with goalkeeper Ter Stegen also lost in thoughts as to what had just happened.
