Old love is the sweetest, and this Durham couple proves it. Jack and his wife, Gerry Eccles, have been married for 70 years. They recently celebrated the momentous occasion surrounded by their large family.

Besides 9 children, 20 grand-children and 24 great-grand children, the pair also had a cake and a picture of the two of them the day they first decided to say "I do" to celebrate the amazing milestone.

All of this took place via a Zoom meeting on a phone held up by the couple's daughter by a window outside the Hillcrest Convalescent Center, a nursing home which is currently under lockdown due to COVID-19.

In the article, the writer explains that the centre where Gerry lives shut down on March 12 and stopped allowing visitors. 93-year-old Jack didn't let that get in the way of seeing his bride. The very next day Jack packed up his things and rented a room at the nursing home.

“We’re married,” he explained. “I want to be with her. She took care of me for 70 years, and now it’s my turn.”
