- Gabriel Magalhaes joins Arsenal from Lille on a five-year deal worth £27m
- The Brazilian joins countrymen David Luiz and Willian at the Emirates Stadium on a long term deal
- Magalhaes will wear jersey number six at the club and will help improve his side's backline
Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazilian star Gabriel Magalhaes from French League side Lille on a five-year deal valued around £27 million.
The 22-year-old becomes Mikel Arteta's fourth signing this transfer window after Pablo Mari, Cédric Soares, and Willian.
Magalhaes will don the number six jersey at the Emirates Stadium according to information made available on the club's website.
The defender will help solidify Arsenal's backline as they hope to contend with other teams for titles this coming season.
Talk Sport reports that the defender turned down offers from Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United to join the North Londoners.
He started his career in Brazil but moved to Europe after just one year and joined Lille in 2017, but was sent on loan to Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb before coming back to establish himself at the club in 2018.
Mikel Arteta said: “We welcome Gabriel to Arsenal. He has many qualities which will make us stronger as a defensive unit and as a team.
"He has proved with Lille that he is a defender with many outstanding attributes and we are looking forward to watching him grow as an Arsenal player.”
The Gunners' boss signed Gabriel because of his tactical flexibility and ability to read the game as well as avert danger. He is also suited as a proactive or reactive centre back, performing in any system that he is instructed to a high level.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Arsenal have terminated the contract of Armenian football star Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the Gunners have also confirmed that he has joined Roma permanently.
The 31-year-old found it difficult to break into the Gunners' first-team after joining from Manchester United in January 2018 in which Alexis Sanchez moved to Old Trafford.
The thought of many Arsenal fans was that Henrikh Mkhitaryan would be a great addition at the Emirates stadium, but he was unable to get his rhythm.
