Nana Konadu to be named flagbearer of NDP on Friday

- Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings will soon be outdoored as the flagbearer of the NDP

Barring any last-minute change, the National Democratic Party (NDP), will, on Friday, September 4, 2020, acclaim former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as its flagbearer for the 2020 elections.

According to the General Secretary of the party, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, Mrs. Rawlings emerged tops out of three aspirants.

He told Citinewsroom.com that the NDP will hold its Congress between September 4 and September 5, 2020, in Accra.

Mr. Frimpong opined that the special guest of honor for their Congress will be the former president Jerry John Rawlings.

He also noted that their Congress will follow all the COVID-19 protocols strictly.

This Friday, because of COVID-19 protocols, five [delegates] each from each of the 16 regions will be trooping into Accra for an in-house session to endorse the flagbearer and national executives. And on Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm will be the outdooring our national officers, including the flagbearer.”

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings founded the National Democratic Party (NDP) in October 2012.

She broke away from her husband's party to form her own party.

In 2012, the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified her and 11 other presidential candidates for failing to meet requirements before the September 30 deadline to file nomination documents.

She contested again in 2016 on the ticket of the NDP.

In other news, President Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated that he is not a tribalist.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader has urged Ghanaians to shun all politicians promoting ethnic sentiments and divisions.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Five Piped Water Supply System in Amedzofe for 69,000 residents of three districts in the Volta Region, the president opined he is not a tribalist.
