Kuami Eugene, the reigning Vodanfone Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year, has disclosed that the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu played a part in him winning the award.
According to Kuami Eugene the, Sheikh Sharabutu's role in his win came in the form of prayers.
The Obiaa To hitmaker was named Artiste of the Year at the 21st edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) held on Saturday, August 29, 2020.
He pipped the likes of Sarkodie, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, and Diana Hamilton to pick the award, which happens to be the topmost VGMA award.
Considered by many as an underdog in the category, Eugene's triumph surprised many and even stirred a lot of criticisms for the VGMA.
In a recent interview on the matter, the Highlife sensation has suggested that there was some divine intervention for his win.
Speaking on Happy FM, Eugene mentioned that the Chief Imam was one of the people who helped him get the divine favour to win.
He explained that when he won New Artiste of the Year award in 2018, he presented it to the Chief Imam who blessed it and declared that he was going to win more awards.
In fulfilment of the prayers, he has been able to win the ultimate award of VGMA within two years.
Touching on his relationship with the chief Imam and how he has easy access to him, Eugene explained that:
” The Chief Imam is a Fadama Man and I am a Fadama boy so it was easy getting access to him. I was extremely thrilled when he remembered by name… I had to swerve my fans to prevent them from mugging me when I was going to see him. He prayed for me and blessed me and for that I am eternally grateful.”
Meanwhile, Kuami Eugene, has given reverence to the Chief Imam by presenting the new award to him.
The Angela hitmaker, in a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, was seen at the residence of the Chief Imam Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu to inform him of his recent success.
After announcing his mission, and showing off his award, Kuami Eugene was prayed for the revered Islamic cleric.
Kuami Eugene paid a courtesy call on the top cleric as is the custom of anyone in the neighbourhood who tastes victory.
