- Lionel Messi made a transfer U-turn and has accepted to remain with Barcelona
- The Argentine earlier handed the club his transfer request amid Manchester City interests
- Messi trained alone under the watchful eyes of new manager Ronald Koeman
Lionel Messi joined his Barcelona team-mates in training on Monday, September 7, for the first time since his whole transfer saga which lasted more than three weeks.
The 33-year-old had last month tendered his transfer request at the club as he hoped to leave, amid reports that he already agreed personal terms with Premier League club Manchester City.
But the six-time Ballon d'Or winner made a U-turn on his Barcelona future as he intends to see out his current contract which expires in June 2021.
The Argentine was seen driving into the Camp Nou training ground earlier and later trained alone - as it would be for a few days as mandated by coronavirus protocols after he failed to undergo tests last week.
"I told the club, including the president, that I wanted to go. I've been telling him that all year," he told Goal. "I believed it was time to step aside.
"I believed that the club needed more young players, new players and I thought my time in Barcelona was over.
"I felt very sorry because I always said that I wanted to finish my career here."
Meanwhile, Samuel Umtiti could be the next player to have his contract terminated at Barcelona with latest reports saying the Catalans are ready to let the player go for free, SunSport reports.
Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to swoop on the centre-back who has another two years left on his deal with the Spanish club. Read
The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou with Clement Lenglet the preferred for the position.
Umititi managed to feature in just 13 La Liga games last season when his side gave up the title to arch rivals Real Madrid.
El Mundo are now reporting that new Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has casted the player aside as the boss earlier offloaded Ivan Rakitic and told Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal they are not in his future plans.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Lionel Messi becomes a model as Barcelona unveil the club’s third kit ahead of the forthcoming 2020-21 season.
After settling the dispute between the Argentine, La Blaugrana have unveiled their new design for the upcoming season.
Messi appeared to be in good spirits in the photo in the striking pink strip and green as Barca simply wrote his name and an emoji of a goat.
