Man laments the challenges of moving out of parents' house

A Nigerian man has said that when moving out of one’s parent’s house, paying rent is the least worry. He said the real reality sets in when one gets to know the price of ordinary curtains.

He added that more concerns would grip one when one realizes that there are still needs like fridge, generator and TV.

He said that he was able to save N960,000 with the help of side gigs after his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). With that money, he thought he had ‘blown’.

The man said that forgetting the time it took him to save that sum while enjoying freebies under his parents’ roof, he decided to pursue his independence and move out.

After several attempts at house hunting in Lagos, he settled for a mini-flat of 350k per year. With agent fee and a 2-year-rent, he was going to part with almost 850k. He said he started sweating.

@IamRouvafe soon realised how insufficient he was, even with his savings. As he was about making payment, he was informed someone already did as they promised to take him to another.

He said that by the time he went to the other one, he saw it would need a painting job. Doing the maths of what he would need after payment, he went back to his parents' house for a month.

With a N200k side gig that came after, he was able to get cheap curtains, bought a mattress. He said he had to live for one year without some basic things.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that a young man identified as Ifeanyi (@J_Chiemeke) on Twitter, took to the microblogging site to share incredible photos of an apartment that a landlord is putting up for rent at an equally incredible price.

According to Ifeanyi, the landlord put up the apartment for N350,000 as basic rent and N520,000 as a total package.

This might not have been such a big deal if the apartment was in a choice area and also in good condition.

However, the photos shared of the place showed that it was in a very sorry state and would need a complete overhaul to be habitable.
