An eyewitness and survivor of the accident who was aboard the Toyota Hiace that was en route Cape Coast blamed the driver of the Ford Transit for the accident.

According to him, the Ford Transit's driver wrongly overtook another vehicle while speeding and this resulted in the clash with the Toyota Hiace.

Meanwhile, the Medical Superintendent of the Apam Catholic Hospital, Dr. Paul Acha said that the seven people who were in critical condition have been stabilised.

The five bodies have, however, been taken to the hospital for preservation and identification.

As always, most of the road carnages are as a result of the carelessness on the part of some drivers and their non-adherence to road traffic regulations.

Other causative factors could be bad road networks and poor rood signages.

Statistics from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service for the 16 regions in Ghana have shown that in January 2020 alone, 222 people lost their lives in road carnages.
