Back to work: Nurses suspend nationwide strike over NLC injunction

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, (GRNMA) has suspended their strike action which commenced on Monday, September 21, 2020.
The decision to suspend the strike action follows an injunction secured by the National Labor Commission.
Addressing the media, the president of the GRNMA, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, entreated all nurses to return to their post on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 8: 00 am pending the outcome of their negotiations.

She stated that for the avoidance of doubt, the strike action has jusymerely been suspended.
Mrs. Ampofo stated that their employer, (the government) was attempting to incite the court against them with regards to citing of contempt and subsequently causing the arrest of the leadership of the GRNMA.
She mentioned that that action by the government amounts to gross intimidation, which she described as very pathetic knowing they have not served them properly.
She expressed disappointment in the government for not finding better alternatives in dealing with the problem but rather developed a divide and rule approach by hiding behind some break away group to break their united front.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, the deputy minister of health revealed that the demands made by the nurses would soon be resolved.
He urged them to return to their various work stations after they embarked on a nationwide strike over poor conditions of service.
According to him, the government has taken their concerns into consideration and has begun fulfilling some of them in the meantime.
