Akufo-Addo finally breaks silence on secessionist groups; says gov't will deal with them

- President Akufo-Addo has for the first time spoken on the activities by the secessionist group of the Western Togoland

- According to him, those involved would be dealt with

- He revealed that he refused to make a public comment immediately because the security personnel were at the helm of affairs

President Nana Akufo-Addo has finally broken his silence on the activities by the secessionist group of the Western Togoland, in the Volta Region.

According to the president, government will deal with the offenders appropriately.

Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Hello FM and reported by Peacefmonline, Nana Addo stated emphatically that the country will definitely "deal with them”.

The president, however, commended the security agencies in the country for their prompt to the issue.

He also mentioned that he decided not comment publicly on the matter because he knew the matter was in the hands of very capable security personnel.

President Akufo-Addo noted that he has unflinching confidence in the security agencies to handle the case and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

"What is happening in the Volta Region in the time of these handful - it's just a handful of people, these secessionists - we'll deal with it. I have no doubts about it,” President Akufo-Addo said.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that on Friday, September 25, 2020 armed men, launched attacks on the Aveyime and Mepe police stations in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

In a separate report, the group blocked the road leading to Ho and Sogakope in the Volta region. This blockage left scores of commuters stranded on the Accra-Sogakope road.

The same incident happened at Kpong where members of the same group blocked the road to prevent commuters from accessing the region.

On Tuesday, September 29, some unidentified people believed to be on the same mission, launched an arson attack on the State Transport Corporation (STC) in Ho, setting fire to one the company's buses.
