Electoral Commission must ensure peace during December polls - Rawlings

- The 2020 general elections is exactly 66 days away

- Former President Rawlings has called on the Electoral Commission to uphold the sanctity and integrity of the upcoming elections

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has called on the Electoral Commission to uphold the sanctity and integrity of the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

He urged the EC to ensure that the electoral register is cleaned up following recent reports of missing names and other challenges during the exhibition of the register.

Speaking in a meeting with the Chiefs of Anlo Traditional Area, Rawlings stated that the recent deployment of the military and other security services that sparked some disaffection could have been done without the passion it generated.

The delegation of Chiefs led by the Awadada of the Anlo State, Togbe Agbesi Awusu II came to purposely mourn the demise of Madam Victoria Agbotui, mother of the former President and Queenmother of the Anlo State.

Touching on the recent activities of secessionist groups, Togbe Agbesi II, said the emerging developments in the region is not only worrisome but endangers peace and national cohesion and must be discouraged.

In other news, James Womba, the main suspect in the murder of University of Ghana's Law lecturer, Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, has spoken to the police in a new confession.

According to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Ghanaweb, James Womba said he went into the late professor's home with the intention to rob him and not to cause any harm to him. Prof Benneh’s murder: Cleaner confesses he is to blame

The Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Isaac Ken Yeboah, while speaking in a media briefing, indicated that Womba and his accomplice knocked out Professor Benneh, killing him in the process.
