YEN.com.gh in an earlier report state that the Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford had been shot dead.
A Citi News report suggested that he was shot on his return from a campaign trip on the Abeadze Dominase–Abeadze Duadzi–Mankessim road by unknown assailants.
An eyewitness who happened to be a part of the MP's campaign team in an anonymous Facebook video narrated how the whole incident happened.
According to him, on their way back to the MP's residence after a hard days work campaigning, they realised that there were two trucks back in the road.
He noted that the speed at which they were driving had to be reduced because of how the trucks were parked.
He noted that upon getting closer to the vehicles, the MP realised that the road was actually blocked by men wielding weapons and thus began to scream 'armed robbers' 'armed robbers'
The eyewitness said the suspected robbers stopped the MP's vehicle with others which had joined him on the campaign tour but the MP's driver attempted to drive through.
The attempt by the driver to drive through angered the armed men forcing them to fire shots at the driver's hands making him loose control of the vehicle.
They were then ordered out of the vehicles and the MP reportedly introduced himself when the suspected robbers asked which of them was Ekow Qwansah, the eyewitness said.
He also noted that the armed robbers stated that they were not there to harm anybody but rather to steal from them.
According to the witness, the armed men said he [MP] was part of the people who were making life uncomfortable for them in the country.
The witness indicated that as the robbers were interrogating them, they(robbers) noticed an on-coming vehicle and were distracted by that.
According to him, he had the chance to escape into a nearby bush only for him to emerge after an hour of several gunshots to meet the MP laying down lifelessly.
The remains of Ekow Quansah Hayford has been deposited at the Saltpond municipal hospital.
The deceased MP filed his nomination for re-election on Thursday, October 8, 2020 and met with the Central Regional executives of the NPP before he set off on the campaign trip.
Ekow Kwansah Hayford left behind a wife and two children. He was the only child of his mother.
