- MP for Mfantseman constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford has been shot dead.

- He was shot on his return from a campaign trip

- Akufo-Addo has expressed shocked and sadness at the news of the murder the MP

- He has called on the police service to bring the perpetrators to book

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed shocked and sadness at the news of the murder of the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman constituency, Ekow Kwansa Hayford.

The death of the MP reportedly took place in the early hours of Friday, September 9, 2020 at Dominase in the Central region on his way back from a campaign.

In a post sighted by YEN.com.gh, the president noted that his encounter with the MP was on June 30, 2020, when he commissioned a water supply project at Anomansa, in his constituency.

Akufo-Addo said by all accounts, he was very much appreciated and loved by his constituents.

He, however, called on the Ghana police service to go to any length to bring the perpetrators of this gruesome, cruel act to book as soon as possible.

Akufo-Addo also extended his deepest condolences to his family, to the Mfantseman constituency, to the New Patriotic Party, and to Parliament.

Ghanaians and a section of internet users could not help but vent their frustrations as well.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that an eyewitness who happened to be a part of the MP's campaign team in an anonymous Facebook video narrated how the whole incident happened.

According to him, on their way back to the MP's residence after a hard days work campaigning, they realised that there were two trucks back in the road.

He noted that the speed at which they were driving had to be reduced because of how the trucks were parked.

He noted that upon getting closer to the vehicles, the MP realised that the road was actually blocked by men wielding weapons and thus began to scream 'armed robbers' 'armed robbers'

The eyewitness said the suspected robbers stopped the MP's vehicle with others which had joined him on the campaign tour but the MP's driver attempted to drive through.
