Tennis star Serena Williams said she is an "undervalued" and "underpaid" black woman. Williams has been a star tennis player for over two decades and has never been afraid to speak out.

The 39-year-old said she loves being a voice for millions, helping women and standing up for people. Being in the position that she is, Williams believes previously disadvantaged people that they do, in fact, have a voice.

The mother-of-one added that she has never been a person that did not like who she is and what she looks like. She likes how she looks and loves representing women of a darker skin tone.

In a cover interview with British Vogue, Williams said she wants to "change the narrative" regarding women not being taught or even being expected to be leaders. Marie Claire reported that Williams said that black people now have a voice and thanked technology for the ability to see things that have been hidden before.

In other news about the tennis star, it previously reported on Williams after she withdrew from the French Open. Tennis superstar Serena Williams has withdrawn from the French Open.

This comes after the 39-year-old suffered an Achilles tendon injury at the US Open semi-final against Victoria Azarenka of Belarus. The mother of one said she was "struggling to walk" and that she needs four to six weeks to recover from the injury. Williams added that it's more than likely that she won't play another tournament for the rest of 2020.

Williams has had a past of health scares with a pulmonary embolism causing a clot in her lung back in 2011. She has not given any indication that she would retire any time soon and she is expected to return for the Australian Open in 2021.
