The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has revealed that people in the New Patriotic Party want him behind bars.

Opening up for the first time on his contempt case, he revealed that some members of the NPP are mounting pressure on his lawyer, Kwame Gyan, to leave him to his fate.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, on the Seat Show on Net2 TV, he stated that since the case was not yet over, he has nothing to say about it.

“All those calling my lawyer that I should be left alone to be jailed, the case is not over so I am not going to say anything about it. If you are not brave you won’t support the NPP because I have NPP members calling my lawyer to ask him why he won’t leave me so I get jailed,” he stated

Kennedy Agyapong said people fear he may be nurturing a presidential ambition so they want him out of the way.

He added that he has no interest in such but rather focused on growing his businesses, making more money and creating employment opportunities.

“They are saying I want to become president, me Kennedy Agyapong. Just give me work so I can make some cash and open industries....Stop the envy and asking that I be jailed, for contempt how long will I even be jailed for?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has instructed that a new judge presides over the contempt case of Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni, a Justice of the Accra High Court, who was presiding over the contempt trial of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has been prohibited.

According to the court, it will give its full reason for the decision on October 20, 2020.

However, the trial will not be before Justice Wuni, who had been presiding over the matter since it commenced.
