Kwansah Hayford: Five arrested over Mfantseman MP's murder

Some suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Ekow Kwansah Hayford, the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman Constituency in the Central region.

According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, the arrested suspects are five in number.

In the statement posted on the Police Service's Facebook page, the suspects are being taken through police procedures.

"Five persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of the Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman Constituency, Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford. They are being taken through lawful Police procedures. Further updates will be given in due time," the police statement read.

Following the statement from the police, reports have emerged indicating that the suspects were arrest in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi.

According to Peace FM's Sampson Nyamekye, the suspects were arrested in the heart of the city and are being interrogated.

The late MP was murdered in a suspected armed robbery case on the Duadze road around 1:00 am at midnight on his return from a campaign tour.

He was said to have begged his assailants when they attacked him, indicating that he was an MP, but they went ahead and shot him.

Kwansah Hayford was 50 years old.

He added that the police in Kumasi with the help of deployment from Accra is still scanning around for more suspects.

Meanwhile, a one-week observance has been held for the late Member of Parliament (MP), Ekow Kwansah Hayford.

The one-week observance which came off on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at his hometown of Mankessim.

Earlier YEN.com.gh reported that a secret second wife of the slain MP has emerged.

Unknown to his first wife who until recently was a uniformed policewoman, the late MP was married to another woman.

However, according to a report filed by Kasapafmonline, the late lawmaker has all this while been legally married to the two accomplished women.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the NPP has chosen the wife of the murdered MP, Ophelia, as his replacement for the party in the upcoming December elections.

The wife, Ophelia Hayford, is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was reportedly selected by the party at a meeting held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
