James Nana Womba, the lead suspect in the murder of University of Ghana's Law lecturer, Professor Yaw Benneh, has died at the Police Hospital in Accra on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
According to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Myjoyonline.com, the police indicated that Womba had been sick for a while following his arrest.
The report went on to add that Womba was rushed to the Police Hospital in Accra for treatment.
While there, he had to be put on oxygen at the intensive care unit of the hospital because his situation was getting critical.
Unfortunately for him, the health workers at the facility tried all they could to save him but he gave up the ghost on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
James Womba had earlier confessed his involvement in the murder of the law professor at his Adjiriganor mansion in Accra.
Following his confession and naming of his accomplices, the state dropped charges against the other three.
One Opambour Agya Badu who prosecutors describe as a named accomplice of Mr. Womba has since been arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The state prosecutors say efforts are underway to apprehend the two others as they got the court to grant them an arrest warrant.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that James Womba, the main suspect in the murder of the University of Ghana's Law lecturer, Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, has spoken to the police in a new confession.
According to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Ghanaweb, James Womba said he went into the late professor's home with the intention to rob him and not to cause any harm to him.
