Majority of Americans believe they are better off under Trump, poll shows

Ahead of the November 3 presidential election in the United States, a survey by Gallup has indicated that the majority of Americans believe their lives are better off under President Donald Trump.
The survey shows that 55 per cent of the respondents say that they are 'better off' than they were four years ago.
The survey gives President Trump the hope of achieving the second term bid as, according to Statista, "the economy and the perceived economic prosperity of Americans under a president is often cited as the key factor in achieving reelection."

The survey also shows that Americans cite the economy as one of the most important issues facing the country in 2020.
Below is a brief summary of the poll:
- Americans' direct ratings of the economy were negative, on balance, but not as negative as earlier in the pandemic.
- Few Americans (9%) considered any aspect of the economy to be the nation's top problem.
- A majority (54%) rated Trump positively for his job performance on the economy.
- A majority (55%) also considered themselves and their family to be better off than they were four years ago.

Meanwhile, former US president Barack Obama has for the first time come out guns blazing and rebuked the administration of President Trump, terming the incumbent as a person who destroyed every good thing he inherited from him at the White House.
Speaking in Philadelphia on Wednesday, October 21, when he joined the presidential campaigns for Democratic nominee Joe Biden, the former president accused Trump of changing the world's view of America to negative.
Obama further called out Trump for "working towards only helping himself and his friends" stating that this had made citizens detest politics.
In another report, a 102-year-old American woman, Ora Smith, who was born in 1918, has gone out to exercise her electoral right as she voted in South Carolina.
The woman was born at a time when a great influenza pandemic attacked the US and wiped out over 675,000 people.
Without fear of the current Covid-19, a second outbreak in her lifetime, the woman went out and cast her vote.
