6 more criminals arrested in 2nd assassination attempt against Gender Minister

News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that six people have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in plotting to assassinate Cynthia Morrison, Agona West MP for the second time.

All six of the suspected criminals namely; John Toko, 26; Emmanuel Mensah, 25; Elvis Kwabena Poku, 36; Kwabena Poku, 48; Wahab Saeed, 26, and Kweku Amponsah, 26, are in the grips of the Swedru Divisional Police Command.

According to a JoyNews report, they were using a Corolla taxi cab with registration number (AS 4534-19) to trail the MP on the Agona Otsenkorang road.

The report indicates that Cynthia Morrison was on a campaign tour from that town and its adjoining villages when she suspected that she was being trailed by that very vehicle.

The alleged criminals had for the past five-days pitched camp at a Hotel in Swedru.

The police mounted surveillance on them at the hotel till they arrived at 9:30 pm on Wednesday and Toko attempted to escape on seeing the police, but was eventually arrested.

A search was conducted on them and eight mobile phones, NDC ID Card with registration number (41047603 -A), and branch card number (A 151501) were found on Toko who said he was from Amanfi Central Constituency of the Western Region.

Two Talismen were found on both arms of Saeed, who also had charms on his waist, five rings and green Military vests.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Paul Ofori Amoah, the parliamentary candidate for Agona West on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), has owned up to giving out two cheques to some four suspects.

According to a Ghanaweb report, the four suspects were arrested in connection to an alleged plot to kill the Gender Minister, Cynthia Mamle Morrison.

Upon interrogation by the Central Regional Police command, Amoah confirmed that he was the person who issued the cheques found on the suspects at the time of their arrest.

According to DSP Oppong, Amoah has been charged with abetment to commit crime (murder) and preparation to commit crime.
