Former President Jerry John Rawlings is undoubtedly a very strong-hearted man. But even he gave in to his emotions at the burial service of his late mother, Madam Victoria Agbotui.
Rawlings mother who passed away in September was laid in state at the forecourt of the State House on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
In one of the many videos that popped up from the non-denominational burial service, Rawlings was spotted overwhelmed with emotions and even struggling to hold his tears.
So emotional was the former president that he could not read his tribute to the mother and had to rely on his first daughter, Dr Zanetor Rawlings, to do the reading.
In the video sighted by YEN.com.gh, the former president is seen seated with his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang, as heir daughter read the tribute.
Throughout the reading of the tribute, Rawlings had his head bent down with a very sad look in his face.
Even before the time to read the tribute, Rawlings had been spotted struggling to hold his emotions as he first inspected the casket carrying his mother.
Arriving at the venue for the burial service, Rawlings went straight to see his mother lying in state and dropped some tears after filing past her.
The mother of Rawlings passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2020.
Madam Agbotui passed away just two weeks after celebrating her birthday. Born in 1919, she turned 101 years old on Wednesday, on September 9, 2020.
Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, NDC running mate Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, among others, were present to mourn with Rawlings.
