Well, if this isn't good luck we don't know what is. A man, Samir Mazaham, who hails from the United States, decided to test his luck in the Mega Millions.

He made a small mistake that panned out in the end. The 56-year-old man picked the five winning numbers and was set to walk away with $1 million - which is an estimated R16 million.

However, he accidentally bought an extra ticket with the same numbers on and it ended up doubling his winnings.

According to the Western Journal, Mazahem used the birthdates of his family members on the lotto ticket.

He explained:

“I forgot to save the numbers as favourites in the app, so I went back in and set them up as favourites so I could easily play them in the future.”

The 56-year-old said he didn't realise that he had bought a second ticket with the same numbers and he was "bummed" when he figured it out. The incident took place in June and Mazahem had no idea he won big until recently when he logged onto his account.

Because he played the same ticket twice, Mazahem's winnings were doubled. He ended up walking away with a whopping R32 million instead of R16 million. Michigan Lottery reported Mazahem collected his winning in person and he plans to purchase a house with the money.

In other news, Briefly.co.za reported earlier this year that a KwaZulu-Natal FNB bank user bought a R100 Lotto ticket and ended up winning the R135 million Powerball jackpot.

According to FNB spokesperson Themba Msimango, the new multi-millionaire purchased the winning ticked by choosing the quickpick option through the FNB online banking platform.

Msimango said that since 2015, more than R1.354bn in winnings has been paid out to FNB customers who played Lotto and Powerball through the bank's digital platforms. The SA lottery shared news of the Powerball winner on Twitter and South Africans freaked out.

Meanwhile, a Free State Lotto player won R121 million in the PowerBall jackpot after wagering R15 on a ticket. According to the Lotto operator Ithuba, the person won the third largest PowerBall jackpot this year.

The latest lucky winner spent R15 on a lotto ticket and won the massive R121m jackpot with the numbers 07, 12, 16, 28, 38 and 13.
