Alabar daylight robbery: Three suspects arrested in Kumasi

- The police in the Ashanti region have arrested three people in connection with a daylight robbery incident at the Alabar Market in Kumasi

- The three aged between 18 and 22 are suspected to be part of the group of robbers who stormed the Alabar Market on Friday, October 30, 2020

Three young men have been arrested in connection with a daylight robbery incident which happened at the Alabar Market in Kumasi on Friday, October 30, 2020.

The three Hamza Nuhu, 22; Salifu Iddrisu, 18; and Ali Razak, 18; were arrested after a hot chase by the police in which Hamza got shot in the thigh.

Reports surfaced on social media on Friday afternoon that a group of armed robbers had stormed the Alabar Market and made away with a lot of cash.

According to the reports, they first attacked and fired gunshots at one businessman who had just come out of the bank.

After snatching the man's money, the robbers were said to have attacked some market sellers and taken cash from them too.

In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, the robbers were seen sitting on motorbikes in pairs and holding guns while they rode through the streets after their operation.

Following the arrest of the three suspects, the Ashanti regional police command has launched a manhunt for four others who were allegedly involved in the robbery.

A report YEN.com.gh sighted on Citinewsroom.com quotes the regional police command as saying:

“They {arrested suspects] are on detention to assist in police investigations, whiles a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of the remaining robbers."

From the report, one person died from the gunshots fired by the robbers while three others were wounded and have been sent to the Manhyia Government Hospital for treatment.

The deceased, reported to have been identified as Anwar Hussain, is said to have died on arrival at the hospital.

The Alabar robbery incident comes just two days after another robbery incident took place in the Ashanti region.

As previously reported by YEN.com.gh, Alhaji Abubakar Sadick, the owner of Sky Oil Filling Station, was shot dead on Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

The incident happened at about 5:00 pm at Asuadei in the Ahafo Ano South-East district of the Ashanti region.

Aged 63, Alhaji Sadick was pronounced dead on arrival after being rushed to the hospital.
