1. Politicising the coronavirus pandemic

President's Trump approach to the coronavirus pandemic is a major misstep that may cost him the election.

For instance, at the initial stage when other world leaders were taking proactive steps, Trump politicised the virus, calling it Democrats' 'new hoax'.

Most Americans, according to Pew Research, believe President Trump's early response to coronavirus was too slow.

2. Unguarded racist rhetoric

President Trump's racist rhetoric may also affect his re-election chances as the black community and others may pitch their tent with Biden.

3. Broken promises

There are some key campaign promises the US president has failed to fulfil which may cost him the election.

One of the prominent promises he made was to repeal and replace Obamacare, the US' Affordable Care Act, formally known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, introduced by former President Barack Obama.

BBC reported that Trump has made no progress regarding this promise.

He has also made no progress regarding his promise to build a border wall paid for by Mexico.

Failure to deliver on these key promises and others may make him lose the votes of some of those who supported him in 2016.

4. Anti-immigrant policies

President Trump's stance on immigration may turn the immigrants' community in the US against him.

Since the inception of his administration, the US president has remained consistent in his anti-immigrant policies.

While he believed the policies are to protect Americans, there are reports that the policies may indeed be hurting the US.

A report by Britta Glennon, an Assistant Professor at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, states in a report that that Trump's ban on worker visas is "likely to have precisely the opposite effect: sending jobs, innovation, investment, and economic growth abroad instead."

Meanwhile, President Trump has said his legal team will head to court immediately after the US presidential election to challenge the counting of late ballots.

Trump made the statement on Sunday, November 1, when speaking to reporters in Charlotte ahead of a rally in Hickory, North Carolina.
