Kanye West received 57 000 votes in the ongoing US presidential election. The rapper had entered the presidential race as an independent candidate.

Kanye, who only launched his presidential campaign in July, got 57 000 votes across the 12 states in which he was running. He has been slammed on social media for taking black votes away from presidential hopeful, Joe Biden.

Kanye, who voted for the first time this year, had been supporting President Donald Trump to win the election but had a change of heart in July and decided to run for the presidency himself.

Dazeddigital.com asked some people what motivated them to vote for Kanye.

K3dar, an aspiring rapper from Michigan, said:

"Voting for Kanye was somewhat of a protest vote to show the Democrats that many of us black Americans are no longer going to just blindly vote for them without their party providing specific tangibles and policies for us in the same way they do for immigrants, Latinos, women and the LGBTQ+ community."

Marquis Woods, a 32-year-old proud Christian from Texas, said:

"As a nation, we’re in a time of great tribulation so I felt like I wasn’t voting for Kanye, but I was voting for God. The only wasted vote is one that is not used, and Kanye West was the closest candidate to God on my ballot paper."

Kanye has hinted that he will also run for presidency in 2024. Tweeps have shared mixed reactions about Kanye's decision to run for presidency. Check out some of their comments below:

"Love you as a human, dad and husband but as a political candidate your vote for yourself is a non-vote... Independents and write-ins take votes away from the majority vote. Our nation needs to educate themselves about voting and elections."

@Seilynn_ added:

"I seriously hope Kanye runs in 2024 and he takes this time to actually write down a plan and study the issues that are going on, and actually practice to convey messages clearer. Kanye is always so misrepresented in the media."
