The death of the former president Jerry John Rawlings has drawn a lot of reactions from Ghanaians both home and abroad.

The death of the statesman comes as a shock as he was spotted hale and heart at the burial of his late mother, Madam Victoria Agbotui, less than a month ago.

Former president Kufuor has joined the list of high-profile Ghanaian personalities and statesmen who have reacted to the death of late head of state.

Kufuor in a Twitter post on Thursday, November 12, 2020, expressed his sadness about the unfortunate death of Rawlings, affectionately called Papa J.

The post read: “Rest in Peace, Jerry John Rawlings.”

Meanwhile, the whole country has been thrown into a state of mourning following the death of the former president which occurred today, November 12, 2020, after a short illness.

In an official statement by President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a seven-day national mourning has been declared starting from Friday, November 13, 2020.

Also, all national flags have been directed to fly at half-mast for the next seven days in all parts of the country.

“In honor of the memory of the former President Rawlings, my Vice President and I have suspended our political campaign for same period,” the President added.

In a related development, Rawlings' daughter and MP for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the former president's office has confirmed he is dead.

The statement indicates that the former president died on the morning of Thursday, November 12, 2020.

The statement revealed that Rawlings died after a short illness while asking for privacy for the family in their difficult time.

Zanetor also stated that the family will release details for Rawlings funeral in due course.
