President Nana Akufo-Addo has written a touching eulogy to the late former president,Jerry John Rawlings.
Akufo-Addo visited the residence of former President Jerry John Rawlings to console his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang and family on their loss.
Former President Rawlings died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatment after falling ill a few days ago.
Reports have indicated that he must have passed away from complications of COVID-19 on Thursday morning, November 12, 2020.
After his visit, Akufo-Addo who was accompanied by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and other members of his government went straight to the Accra International Conference Centre where a book of condolence had been opened in Rawlings' honour.
In his message, Akufo-Addo described Rawlings' role in the establishment and development of Ghana's Fourth Republicas exceptional.
He added that Ghanaians appreciate Rawlings' leadership and he, Akufo-Ado, appreaicates their friendship.
Akufo-Ado wished Rawlings a peaceful rest in the bosom of his maker.
"Your role in the establishment and development of the 4th Republic as the most enduring Republic of our history is truly exceptional.
"Ghanaians appreciate your leadership of our nation and will remember you accordingly. For me, I appreciate very much your friendship.
"Commandant, fare well and rest peacefully in the bosom of the almighty. Sgd Nana," he wrote.
Meanwhile, former President John Mahama has led an NDC delegation to visit the family of former President J.J. Rawlings.
Just like Akufo-Addo, Mahama and the delegation visited to console the family over the death of Rawlings.
While Mahama had been expected to sign the book of condolence, National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has revealed that Mahama was refused access to the book of condolence.
