2020 WASSCE results: Over 49,000 candidates fail in Core Maths

- Over 40,000 WASSCE candidates in Ghana failed their Core Math paper.

- Exactly 73,243 also had Grade F9 in the Core Integrated Science paper.

- A total of 67 percent of candidates had A1 in Core Mathematics.

The West African Examinations Council has revealed in a circular that 49,721 WASSCE candidates in Ghana scored a Grade F9 in core Mathematics.

Although the output of candidates was far better than previous years, the challenge of doing well in Maths and Science remains a headache to authorities.

In fact, 73,243 Ghanaian candidates also failed in Integrated Science. In total, 375,763 candidates took part in the 2020 examinations from Ghana.

The poor performance in Mathematics and Science continues to be an issue of concern to Ghanaian educational authorities.

Even Though innovative programs and incentives have been put up by the government, it seems a chunk of Ghanaian students are just not either interested or versed in the subject.

The good news is that 67 percent of candidates who sat for the Core Mathematics paper scored A1 in the subject with 52 percent scoring A1 in Integrated Science. This makes the 2020 WASSCE one of the best in recent history - especially under the Free Education Policy by the government.

Meanwhile, candidates who wish to access their provisional results are to visit www.waecgh.com. Out of a total of 375,763 candidates from Ghana, only 3,343 were absent for all papers. This year's examination has been very phenomenal, considering the threat of the Coronavirus lockdown and also its impact on the mental health of Ghanaian candidates.
