Veteran journalist, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako Jr, has said President Nana Akufo-Addo will win the upcoming presidential elections despite Martin Amidu’s resignation as the special prosecutor.
Amidu’s abdication of his post as Ghana’s foremost anti-corruption prosecutor on Monday, November 13, 2020, gave credence to the erosion of the president’s incorruptibility tag.
The resignation was seen as a major dent on the president’s fortunes in the December 7 presidential poll.

In his resignation letter, the former attorney general accused the president of stifling his efforts to fight graft in the country.
Commenting on the development, Baako stressed that the sudden resignation of Amidu would not hurt the electoral fortunes of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the president.
“I’m not going to say win or lose because I know it will be a win,” he stated on Accra-based Peace FM on Thursday, November 18, 2020.
The presidency accepted Amidu’s resignation and wished him well in his future endeavours.
That notwithstanding, the president rejected the former special prosecutor’s accusation of interference, calling the accusations regrettable.
" ...Your accusation of interference with your functions simply on account of the meeting the president held with you is perplexing,” the president said in a statement signed by his secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo.
“The impression given by you that there was a deliberate intention to ensure your office didn’t function is the more startling,” the statement added.

Baako implored the presidency not to give credence to Amidu when he reacts to Akufo-Addo’s response to his resignation letter.
In related news, the outspoken NPP MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, said he warned the party against the appointment of the now-former special prosecutor.
